Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for operation
   • Workstation is set up in accordance with OH&S practices and workplace requirements
   • Equipment is set up in accordance with specification for the work
   • Personal protective equipment is identified and applied
2. Operate mending equipment
   • Product is checked for repair or condemning
   • Repair requirements for damaged products are determined and performed in accordance with required specifications
   • Specialists or appropriate personnel are consulted where necessary on repair requirements
   • Equipment is operated in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and workplace procedures
   • Operating faults are identified and reported
3. Maintain product repair records
   • Finished product repair records are accurately maintained to meet workplace requirements

Required Skills

Demonstrates knowledge of machine and equipment applications operation monitoring and adjustment procedures knowledge of fibres and fabrics repair techniques and procedures safety and environmental aspects of related to workplace and machine and equipment operation and manual handling including consumable or hazardous materials workplace practices OHampS practices including hazard identification and control measures quality practices recording and reporting practices

Demonstrates skills to prepare work area and machine use equipment and make adjustments carry out a range of repairs inspect finished products maintain quality requirements for each stage of the process interpret and apply established procedures document assess and transfer information read interpret and follow information on work specifications standard operating procedures and work instructions and other reference material maintain accurate records communicate within the workplace sequence operations meet specifications clarify and check taskrelated information carry out work according to OHampS practices

Resource implications	Access is required to real or appropriately simulated situations including work areas materials and equipment and to information on workplace practices and OHampS practices
Context for assessment	Assessment may occur on the job or in an appropriately simulated environment
Interdependent assessment	This unit may be assessed independently or in combination with other relevant units
